Since 2018, the four families have worked collaboratively, investing significant time, seed capital and expertise to progress the Iona Project. Built on shared values of trust, integrity, collaboration, courage and respect, the group remains focused on delivering a practical, long-term project that creates lasting value for the beef industry, regional Queensland and future generations.
The Iona Project originated from a 2018 community forum hosted by the Central Highlands Regional Council to explore the potential for local beef processing infrastructure. A steering committee was established following this discussion, with the four founding members of 148 East remaining as the core group driving the project forward.
Since then, the project has evolved through detailed planning, technical investigations and collaboration with industry, government and regional stakeholders. Today, 148 East continues to guide the project's development through a practical, evidence-based approach grounded in agricultural experience and long-term regional investment.

As the project moves forward, 148 East remains committed to its founding purpose: building an innovative, circular and regenerative platform that strengthens Australia's beef supply chain, supports long-term growth across regional Queensland, and delivers lasting value for industry, community and future generations. We will continue to engage openly with industry, government and the communities of the Central Highlands as the project progresses.
