Technology is central to the design of the Iona Project. From the outset, the facility has been planned around robotics, automation and artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, consistency and resilience while addressing some of the challenges facing modern beef processing.

Rather than adapting older infrastructure, Iona has been designed as a new-build facility that can incorporate current technologies from the ground up. The processing plant is being developed to handle a diverse range of products, from premium chilled Wagyu beef produced in the Central Queensland region through to broader beef processing streams.

Sustainability is embedded throughout the precinct's design. Renewable energy generation, biogas, bio-nutrient recovery and advanced water treatment systems are being integrated to reduce environmental impacts and create value from processing by-products.

By combining advanced technology with integrated production systems, the Iona Project aims to establish a more efficient, sustainable model for beef processing and support Central Queensland's role as a leader in agricultural innovation.
